Wendy was one of the original 2,000 applicants for our first customers-as-models shoot Introducing. We liked her very much. In fact, so much that we asked her back to star in our autumn campaign. Luckily, she accepted.
As you can see, Wendy’s a natural in front of the camera. She’s only just stepped off the plane from France, and she’s got some invigilating to do later. But why not do a modelling shoot in the meantime? (That’s the kind of thinking we like.)
“I saw the casting call, sent in a few photos and you never expect to hear,” Wendy explained, as we sat down to catch up with her on set. “And then we got picked! The dogs and I. Which was brilliant. I was thrilled to bits!”
And the campaign images really resonated with people on social media. “Using real women, I think that really struck a chord with lots of people. And I was pleased. Proud to be a part of that. I think it’s so important”.
Wendy spent over a decade lecturing, spent some time on stage, and even worked as a hair model in her youth, so she’s “used to being in front of a crowd of people”.
“The clothes were lovely on the shoot. Doing it has put me in clothes I probably would never choose for myself. That gorgeous blue dress. It’s fabulous.”
We love using our customers as models. And it’s something we want to do more and more. So we asked Wendy what she’d say to someone who’s thinking of applying. “Absolutely do it,” she smiled. “Especially as you get older, you need to grab new experiences. I’d say to anyone, go for it.”
“I’m probably not what you normally expect to see in a fashion shoot, and yet it worked. There were comments on social media saying ‘it’s so nice to see a real woman in the clothes’. I think that’s hugely important. Showing what real women look like.”
